Walking down Bangkok high street with my parents I made eye contact with possibly the most beautiful woman I’d seen – at the tender age of nine – this stare was held for a while, until we were about to pass her, at which point, she said – in the deepest voice I’d heard – “Hello, boy”. I smiled, digested what had just happened and, turning to my father asked, “Daddy, was that… a man?”

None of us fully understanding the situation blindly followed his instructions thinking my father had merely just lost a pair of jeans to this man. Out of morbid curiosity we returned after the specified time to find not one, but two pairs of jeans. The original had been perfectly reconstructed and a new pair of Levi jeans had been perfectly forged to the exact fit my father required. They were better than any he’s bought in a Levi shop he’s continued to remark to this day.

The markets were interesting too – I remember my dad being coaxed into removing his jeans for a stall owner who promptly began to take them apart. I can still remember the shock on my dad’s face to this day. Fortunately, he had some shorts on him too, so his embarrassment (though not his lack of understanding nor frustration) soon subsided. The owner asked my dad what his favourite brand of jeans was, whilst now being in the middle of a frenzy unstitching these jeans. My father replied “Um, Levi, I guess”, the owner merely nodded his head and said, “Okay. Come back in 3 hour”.

Video games, I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember. My current favourite is probably the latest release in the Call of Duty franchise: Modern Warfare 2. I have a real thing for first person shooters – ever since I first played ‘Wolfenstein 3D’ as a young child. Shortly after I’d finally managed to finish this game ID Software came out with the infamous Doom. I was hooked. I’ve been hooked ever since, much to my parents’ dismay. They’ve never seen the point but they’ve never played either. I suspect they’re scared of me calling them hypocrites when they too, fall in love with the genre. It’s been interesting to watch the games evolve, as the technology around them did. What was ground breaking yesterday is miles behind what will be released tomorrow; I just wish I could evolve at the same speed as the games. I’m not too good on the new games, but it doesn’t stop me from trying. Good at modern games or not, I’m still pretty good at the classics, and I’ll happily beat you at Duke Nukem 3D any time you’d like.

It’s nearly ready, just the Quorn left to add. Being frozen it begins to make that familiar sizzling sound. The microwave ‘Ding!’s, and the tortillas are now ready. The gas is turned off, and people begin to dive in. There’s an art to wrapping a Fajita, one I’ve not quite mastered yet. So, after loading in, beans, Quorn, cheese, jalapenos, peppers, sour cream, guacamole and some salsa I begin the task of haphazardly wrapping this up. We all begin throwing this food all down ourselves, as it seems no one else has the fajita wrapping art quite mastered either. After all getting our fill, and the last of each ingredient has been consumed we all sit back and rub our now inflated stomachs. Moments later and unanimously, we all let out a “Me gusta!”

Everyone is aware the visits will not take place, but it’s something we say because we feel we have to. On the basis of this knowledge, Christmas always leads to being the best time of the year, as everyone involved ensures the most is made from the few days of holiday we have from our respective cities and work places. The family rivalry to ‘one-up’ the previous year’s host also ensure there’s constantly food available, in plentiful amounts and it never fails to satisfy my ever increasing levels of Christmas gluttony. It’s a real shame it ever has to end.

It gets me every time. I’m not even a huge fan of Coca-Cola, I’m more a Pepsi person but they’ve never created a jingle that good. Besides that rather silly reason for liking Christmas, it is of course a rather good to finally get around to see family members for the first time since last Christmas, despite our drunken promises to make good on last year’s drunken promises to visit one another in our new places of residence.

Those where the best days of my life when I was I child because everybody use to feel attracted towards me as I kept on doing naughty work and things. One of my mischievous actions which I still remember is that I alongwith my friend set on fire a house of my neighbour. It all started near the diwali days we all use to burn crackers the whole day long without caring that our actions can lead to big loss for others. One of the Sky shots entered my neighbour’s house and we thought that it has extinguished itself but to our surprise there was a fire after sometime. I can never forget that frightful day in my life.
